Fifty Horses and the Color Yellow

The Sand Box

The following dream was reported by our son with much excitement at breakfast yesterday, and he continued to share about it until the school bus arrived.  I gave him a mild caution that others might not find his dream as exciting, but it doesn’t mean that it isn’t exciting.

He shared “Fifty horses were loose in my school and my teacher had one by a rope.  She wouldn’t let go. I kept calling to her to let go, but she held on, even up a small flight of stairs.  She was being pulled behind.  Then I realized we could control the horses with the color yellow, so I pulled a large piece of yellow board up to the ceiling and when the horse ran underneath lowered it.  This calmed them down and eventually we were able to get things back in control.”

Along with the interesting symbolism relating to a new school year, what comes through loud and clear is that the instincts yield to understanding and insight, here seen as the color yellow.  Having our son’s fantasy energy consciously directed toward his dream imagery was a new positive step forward in his journey.  For him, a dream about his school was clearly about his life.  This was clearly a numinous experience for him.
